Raw Materials
Ecover products are mainly made of plant-based raw
materials from sustainable sources. This minimizes any negative impact
they have on the environment. This is beneficial for people and planet.
Most conventional detergents and cosmetics are based on non-renewable
resources such as fossil fuels. Extracting and processing fossil
ingredients requires a lot of energy, promotes the depletion of finite
resources and contributes to global warming by mobilizing fossil CO2.
Founded
in 1980, Ecover has predominantly used plant-based raw materials from
sustainably manages sources. These include derivatives from plants such
as starches, acids, cellulose, surfactants (from rapeseed, palm- and
coconut oil), or extracts such as essential oils from seeds, leaves,
peels and other plant parts. These are either used directly or after
processing to ensure full use of the hidden power of nature. In addition
Ecover also uses minerals and mineral derivatives, such as carbonates,
zeolites and silicates. These minerals or their components are found
naturally in enormous quantities (for example, 75% of the earth's outer
crust consists of silicates). Thus, there is no danger of depletion and
permanent damage to ecosystems during the extraction of these materials.
